Last Minute Vacation Packing
Well, I was supposed to head to Orlando today but that, luckily, is not happening now. I have horrible flying anxiety (I’ve mentioned it before when going on my trip in April) and the fact that I’d have to travel 4,000 miles on two planes in less than 40 hours was too much… so I’m home. I couldn’t be happier.
But, before I decided it wasn’t in my best interest to go, I did do some pre-trip packing prep. (Say that four times fast…) I think the scariest part, for most people, is trying to figure out what they are going to pack. Small vacations or work traveling are probably the worst because you have to fit a versatile wardrobe into a small carry on.
So, first off. Let’s talk luggage. If you’re traveling by plane (yuk…) You have a regulated size for EVERYTHING. But push that limit. Make sure you are working with all that you can… especially if you are a heavy packer like myself. For my last trip, I carried a large purse and a small carry on suitcase. If you’re traveling by car, I also recommend still staying with that large bag or purse theory. My most recent trip to South Bend, IN (Wo! Go Irish!) was a trip that I always carry a large tote for. It’s important to have your favorite items with you whether it’s handy on the plane or easy to get to in your car.
So, what other items do I pack? I’m not going to get into the clothing detail because to be honest… it’s all over the place with me. I’d love to say I have a strict packing method to what I take and do not take but, sadly, I do not. I will include some amazing links at the end of the post for you from blogs and sites from girls that DO have some amazing tips. I’ll definitely try to keep them in mind for my next trip! Anyways, some things I like to pack for my large tote/purse:
Items from my regular purse : Sometimes I pack a smaller bag for once I reach my location but while traveling I use a tote. Keep things like your wallet, keys, important documents in your tote.
Small toiletries : tissues, medication, hand sanitizers, hand wipes (public bathrooms are disgusting), touch up makeup (I like to keep at least some powder and mascara in my bag. It never fails that I fall asleep in the car and that never looks good…), small fragrance stray
Easy Activity : I keep my crochet items for the shop in my bag. Also, I always take my iPad when I travel rather than haul my MacBook Pro around. It’s lighter to carry and less expensive (with less documents) in case something happens to it. Also, I use my Kindle app on it so I can read.
Chargers : I always keep my iPad and iPhone chargers in my tote. Nothing like getting to your location, having your bags lost and not having a charger!
Water : I keep a bottle of water in my bag. This works great while in the car but may cause some issues while flying if you purchase before security so just keep that in mind.
Small pillow : Traveling and napping go hand in hand, right?
And what about travel clothing? I’m all about comfort while I’m traveling. If I have to sit on a plane for hours or sit in a car all day, I better be comfortable… especially if I’m not driving and I can nap. Have I mentioned how wonderful napping is? Yea, it’s great. So, my prefered clothing choice is tights, comfy top, boots and a scarf. Done. That’s it. You give me those simple items and I’m golden.
