Fun Fact Friday : Jackson Sanitarium

August 10, 2012

Yesterday, I had the big idea ever. Let’s see if you agree. I love doing Friday Letters! Yet, some weeks I just can’t think of anything. One thing I always love are fun facts. One of my assistants at work always says “fun fact” when she’s about to tell something random. It’s caught on pretty well throughout the store. So, I decided to start Fun Fact Fridays (3F). I’m always bursting at the seams with random stuff, so why not share that knowledge! Also, I might start a link up after a while too.

But for now, my first 3F post:

You probably already know that I live for knowledge. I love random facts or even better finding random things that lead to even better random facts. And that’s exactly what this post is about. Earlier this week, I went to Dansville, NY to watch my mom and grama on a hot air balloon ride. (More on that later). While we were in the park, we noticed a strange, castle like building on a hill. Eventually we got around to asking the lady the ran the hot air balloon ride what exactly this mysterious building was. She said it was some kind of sanitarium from the 1920′s… and que my curiosity. That’s all I needed before my phone was out and I was ready to know everything and anything about this building and how to get there. (I also forgot to mention. Any kind of old building makes me go crazy as well.) I find it very odd that I hated history in school… but relatable, in-my-face history is the best thing – ever!

Anyways, I quickly found that it was called the Jackson Sanitarium. I also had to figure out what in the world a sanitarium was exactly. I may love knowledge but I don’t know all the things, yet. I found some good information here. In addition to that information, I also found some pretty good photos of the place as well. And a quick video too.

Needless to say, I need to go there as soon as possible.
