Smoothies

July 12, 2012

There aren’t many things that I find better than a great smoothie for breakfast on the go. I got a Magic Bullet for Christmas this past year and I typically have a smoothie at the very least two times a week. They’re simple, easy and, if done right, extremely healthy for you!

I got my original recipe from Lauren Conrad’s blog and have been doing spin offs of this recipe ever since. Here’s the original for you:

1 cup ice
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 cup plain lowfat yogurt
1 banana
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 tablespoon honey
1 cup coconut water (or other liquid, such as juice)

Now, for what I do? I hate having the same exact thing every day. Also, I rarely have the same exact items every day or week for that matter. Here’s my recipe for one serving (exactly one Magic Bullet cup):

1/2 cup Silk yogurt
1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar
2 tablespoons old fashioned rolled oats
* fruit
** Soy Milk

*The fruit all depends on what I have. I typically try to use at least half of a banana because it makes it smooth and then go from there. Fruit I usually go for : blueberries, strawberries, mangoes, apples. I have used grapes, citrus and raspberries before but they typically create an odd texture.
** Once all of my ingredients are in, I fill the remaining room of the cup with milk or if I’m looking for an extremely fruity drink, I fill it with a fruit juice like green machine.

So, there you have it! My smoothie technique. There’s not much structure to it but that’s what I like. I experiment with smoothies all the time and just keep adding things until I like it.

I’m always finding smoothie recipes on Pinterest, so I thought I’d include them as well. Here’s a few with a milkshake recipe at the bottom… I really need to try that one! Enjoy!

I’ve been having smoothies for dinner all week. I need some new inspiration so your post is awesome! I have some aloe vera – I wonder what I could mix it with?

I’ve never tried that but I’m always up for new things! If you happen to do it, let me know what you think.
