It’s Birchbox review time! Last month, I definitely was not excited to do my review on my box but this month is completely different. After realizing that I had used each item at least once from my box, I immediately decided it was time to sit down and write up my thoughts! So, here we go!
So, my original thought when I first opened the box was – Yes! Bigger samples. That was my #1 complaint last month. My samples were pathetic and not worth the money – at all. My second thought – Ew. That nail polish is horrible.
And let the judging begin… first item up : Miss Jessie’s Original Super Slip Sudsy Shampoo and Miss Jessie’s Original Crème de la Crème Conditioner. My thoughts and feeling on these two… eh. I’m super picky when it comes to my shampoo and conditioners and very rarely do I find one I’m in love with. Oddly enough, I’m currently using a drug store brand but it works amazing (More on that later, maybe?). These two really didn’t do anything for me. The shampoo is by far the worst consistency I’ve ever had in a shampoo. It claims to be “super sudsy” yet the weird goo would not suds at all for me! Then there was the conditioner which was very watery. Unlike the shampoo, I can see the conditioner working well for others. My hair is extremely thick, naturally curly, and chemically straightened (yes, I have all odds against me) so it really didn’t do anything too amazing. But my hair did end up soft after my shower. Decent product, just not for me.
Miss Jessie’s Original Curly Meringue. It’s starting to look like Birchbox has a thing for Miss Jessie this month! It’s everywhere. I used this product a couple of times (the jar is still no where near even half gone!) and each time I was left with the thought that it was just okay. Once again, I think this could do wonders… for someone else. It didn’t give a great hold which is definitely something that someone with real curly hair needs. This would be perfect for that person who already has perfect, gorgeous curls and wants a little leave in conditioner or maybe someone with naturally wavy hair. By no means is this a curl cream with any hold to it.
Now that I’ve gotten all the negative out! Here comes my favorites of this months box! First off, this horrible little thing (Color Club Neon Nail Polish in Age of Aquarius – which BTW happens to be my Zodiac sign – Bonus points there Birchbox). And I say that jokingly. When I first opened my box I was horrified by the sight of this ugly, little, green bottle. I had seen (ops, I peaked) that others had gotten adorable little glitter polishes from Essie and I got THIS. Are you kidding me? I immediately dismissed this color as ugly and figured I’d never wear it. Ever.
One month later, I sit here… with it on my toes. In love. I guess I really shouldn’t judge a color that fast! So, yea… moral of the story… try even the “ugly” polishes. Because, seriously, this is a great color and I definitely get compliments on it!
Next, I have the I Coloniali Tibetan Shower Cream with Rhubarb… Perfect. Amazing. Made for me. I don’t even know what to say. This amazing shower cream won me over instantly! It’s a nice, rich and heavy shower cream, not gel. My only thing is the fragrance. I am absolutely in love with the fragrance but I do have a tolerance for unique and difference fragrances after working for Bath & Body Works. I really do try to find the positive in all fragrances and this one is a heavier and more unique fragrance from what the typical American is use to. Face it ladies, you’re use to ridiculous floral and fruity stuff! This definitely has an earthy fragrance in which Birchbox’s site even refers to it as a Far Eastern getaway in which rhubarb is one of the main ingredients. Like I said, I love it but I can see it not being for everyone… which is too bad!
More yummy smelling things! Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrien! Birchbox’s website described it as a bright and effervescent fragrance conjured up from sun-ripened citrus fruits and musky rose. Oh, and let my love for musky fragrance continue. This is a winner right here. It’s funny because while I was wearing it I actually kept thinking that it reminded me of a fragrance I had before and about half way through my day (yes, it lasted all day long – perfect) I realized that it reminded me of Le Couvent Des Minimes Orange and Cinnamon, which is now discontinued and extremely difficult to find. After a little searching I found some on ebay and also forgot that they have just their Orange Blossom version as well which is still available. Either way, it’s a great fragrance. But, like I mentioned about the I Coloniali Tibetan Shower Cream, I can see this fragrance not working for everyone.
Last, but certainly not least, I have WEI Pomegranate Buffing Beads. I honestly hadn’t a clue what to do with this product when I first saw it. I’d never seen anything like it before but after reading the instructions it was a piece of cake! You simply take a small amount of cleanser (I used my Dermalogica but I just found out that WEI actually carries a cleanser too… hmmm…) and mixed the beads with it to form a scrub. This technique is actually very similar to what I do with baking soda for a scrub so I’m not really sure if I’d ever go out of my way to purchase this again but it did a great job as a scrub and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an option to personalize a scrub with their already favorite cleanser!
So, there you have it! My March Birchbox round up! Any other questions about the box products this month (or even last) feel free to ask away!
