Coconuts, Magic & Secrets…

Okay, glad that caught your eye because I have some pretty awesome things to share today! The first thing that I’m head over heels in love with currently is coconut oil. I’m pretty sure there is nothing that comes close to coconut oil. It’s perfect. Seriously. I first heard of using coconut as a beauty product on people webs. That post alone changed my beauty regimen – completely! But more on that later! So, after reading Lindsi’s post about coconut oil I decided to give it a try. It was love at first use! I have extremely oily skin that breaks out very easily! So, the thought of using oil should sound horrible. Wrong! I’ve heard for a while now that the trick to oily skin is to actually use oil. Why? Well, the reason most skin is oily is because you are constantly using products to dry the oil up. When you attempt to get rid of the natural oils your skin produces, it actually makes your body believe that it needs to produce even more oil. Oil for your skin is good… it keeps you hydrated and also helps your skin remain healthy and looking young! I remember when I first read this my mind was blown. It makes sense. But it also made me think of how since I was 13 I’d been using all kinds of beauty products to try and get rid of the oily skin and really I was just making it worse! Ugh, smack in the face.

Anyways, I can not explain how oily my skin is – it’s ridiculous – but I use this coconut oil nightly and my skin has never been so smooth and LESS oily throughout the day – ever! On top of that, it smells AMAZING! Imagine the smell of a pina colada … then double that. Not convinced yet? Well, it’s good for other things too. I recently read somewhere (ops, I forget where!) how it can help with making your hair healthier. The article suggested using it on your scalp at night before you wash your hair in the morning. I tried it and of course worked great. Oh, wait… one more thing. Sick of having your hair serums make you break out, maybe their too expensive or possibly you hate the smell? But you still need a good way to tame all your fly aways? Yea, this will do the trick too! I have extremely thick hair so I can put a lot of coconut oil and not have to worry about it looking greasy but if you have thinner hair make sure you are careful with how much you apply! Either way, definitely give it a try! I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my hair before.

Okay, I know you’re probably thinking will I ever shut up today! But, I can’t help it. These three products are some of my favorites – ever. The second is Egyptian Magic. What in the world is this? Well, up until my discovery of coconut oil… it was my favorite thing! I originally ran into this product while on Urban Outfitters one night. I’m guilty of browsing their site late at night when I can’t sleep… I always seem to find some odd but amazing things. Including this! When I first purchased it, I was using it as a night cream. Since my skin is extremely oily, I found it was a little too heavy for me but I could see it doing wonders for others. It did not cause me to break out so I was happy about that. Now, I typically use it as a body cream or hand cream. It works great for that and is heavier so it helps heal any dry skin pretty fast. I definitely recommend it for anyone with dry skin!

Lastly, baby wipes! This may not be a big secret to many but it’s definitely one of those random things you’ll – always – find it my bathroom! Most oil based make up removers cause me grief. One – they typically are too greasy and cause me to break out… which is the opposite to what I need them for and two – a lot of makeup removers are ridiculously expensive. My solution : baby wipes! They get all of my foundation, eye shadow, etc off and then also work wonders when it comes to getting mascara off as well! I couldn’t ask for more! Plus, they are super easy to pack when going on trips!

So, there you have it! My current favorite beauty secrets and recent finds. Anyone have some amazing tricks they’d like to share?! Let’s hear them!
